GE Watt-Miser Fluorescent Tubes in the Spotlight
Fluorescent tubes are well known energy savers when compared to incandescent or halogen bulbs but some fluorescent tubes are more energy efficient than others. One of these is the Watt-Miser, a highly energy efficient type of fluorescent tube from leading manufacturers GE.
What is the Watt-Miser?
The Watt-Miser is a range of fluorescent lights which have been designed to use less energy. T5 and T8 tubes are available and can save approximately 5% and 10% energy respectively, with the added benefit of cutting CO2 emissions. Watt-Misers work with existing control gear so you won’t need to upgrade your system to gain the benefits these bulbs offer.
Ideal for indoor use, T5 Watt-Miser tubes can be fitted in a range of applications including shops, offices, academic establishments and industrial settings – anywhere where lighting is required for long periods. Despite using less energy, the bulbs maintain light and lumen output, meaning that you don’t get a duller light over time.
As these tubes are super-slim, with a 16mm outer diameter, they require less energy to dispose of and a further environmental benefit is that they are manufactured with low levels of mercury. The bulbs comply with RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances) guidelines which means they are manufactured with levels below the agreed amount of six harmful substances including lead, mercury and cadmium.
You can expect to get around 25,000 hours life from these bulbs.
The T8 Watt-Miser from GE is designed to cut energy costs and CO2 emissions when compared to regular T8 tubes. This tube is ideal for use in large scale applications such as shopping centres, schools and offices, but single tubes can be used in the home or garage for example.
T8 Watt-Misers can save up to 10% on running costs, whilst reducing CO2 consumption. These bulbs maintain their lumen and colour quality output and will last for approximately 15,000 hours.
