Fluorescent Tubes

A fluorescent tube is a gas-discharge lamp that uses electricity to excite mercury vapor in order to produce short-wave ultraviolet light that then produces visible light.

Fluorescent tubes transfer electrical power into useful light more efficiently than traditional incandescent lamps. This can lead to lower energy costs and soon pays back the higher initial cost compared to incandescent lamps. The higher initial cost comes as a result of the lamp requiring a ballast to regulate the flow of current through the lamp.
